The Used: Lies For The Liars

2007

Lies For The Liars was the follow-up to what many consider, one of the bands best albums. I think because of this, this album tends to kind of live in it’s shadow. One thing that stands out to me on this album is the almost animated, chaotic nature of lead singer Bert McCracken. I would say a majority of the songs have this melodic feel mixed with a manic state and constant feel of chaos. I think the best way to explain it is “beauty in the breakdown”.  We still get a little bit of the romantic side that was present from McCracken on In Love and Death. This is demonstrated on songs like Earthquake, With Me Tonight, and Smother Me.  Overall, this is an enjoyable album but, it’s not one I think of right away when I think of this band. It’s not their best but it’s not necessarily bad.
