Sixpence None the Richer: Self-Titled (1997)

  • Sixpence None the Richer is the self-titled, third studio album from the alternative rock band of the same name.
  • The album is widely known for its big hits in the songs Kiss Me and There She Goes. There She Goes actually wasn’t included on the original 1997 release of the album and was included on the albums re-release in the summer of 1999. This is a notable attribute of the longer span between singles the overall promotion of an album back in the 90’s.
  • The album made it’s way to #1 on the U.S. Christian charts. That being said, while the album surely has themes and lyrical content that reflects those views, it never feels like you the listener are being preached to per-se. This album was written and composed in a way that allows for multiple levels of enjoyment.
  • This album plays like a sort of blend of the likes of The La’s and Cranberries.
  • The album charted at #89 on the Billboard 200.
  • I would recommend giving this album a listen if you are a fan of the well-known hits. While I would say those two tracks are surely the highlight of the album, there are a few more stand out tracks, and the overall listen is enjoyable.
