HIM: Dark Light (2005)

Dark Light is the fifth studio album from Finnish Gothic Rock band HIM. This album was considered to be a little more accessible for general rock listeners. The album was generally well received but, the criticism that popped up seemed to be geared towards the albums second half. The albums opening track Vampire Heart has a grand feel to it with some beautiful vocals that feel almost vampire-like in their delivery. Winge of a Butterfly, which is possibly the bands biggest hit, follows right after. Killing Loneliness is another one of the bands biggest hits that comes as the fourth track on the album.

The second half of the album definitely doesn’t pack as much of a punch as the first half. The sonic style is generally on the softer side of the band’s sound. While there are surely some well written tracks and nice melodies, the punch that some of the songs in the albums first half is completely absent making it less invigorating. This album is still a good listen throughout but, the first half just has more energy and contains the albums best tracks.
