The Libertines: All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade (2024)

  • All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade is the fourth studio album from garage rock band The Libertines.
  • It’s the band’s first album in 9 years.
  • The opening track Run Run Run, is an energetic track with a warm sensibility about it that makes the album very welcoming.
  • The band Blur comes to mind a lot while I listen through this album. I feel like fans of one band would be into the other but, that’s not to say that the two sound identical. There are just similar energies and vibes in the music.
  • Merry Old England is a track that has this sort of vintage feel about it with the combination of the singing style and inclusion of strings. It’s a track that transports you, the listener, to another place and time.
  • Oh Shit is a great, sing-along type of song that is a song I could see being popular in a live setting.
  • There is plenty of sensible Jazz infusion in the music of this album. Some might not like it too much but, from a music standpoint, it’s very well executed.
  • As a drummer, I have to compliment the drumming on the track Shiver. The use of the hi-hat is such a major component and driving force of the songs power. It adds emphasis at the right times in the right way.
  • This is a good listen with a track or two that will stick with you.
